Stormy Weather Toolkit v2.0

While storms can happen anytime of the year, we thought it would be a good idea to post an updated version of our Stormy Weather Toolkit given the news of the big storms about to hit our area over the next few days.

Are you prepared for the storm?  A few things to check for include:

  • Locate your flashlights check for fresh batteries
  • Charge up your cell phones
  • Double check your contact list for family members
  • Make sure you have a full tank of gas in your vehicles
  • Secure outdoor furniture and garbage cans

In addition to preparing your home and area for stormy events once the storm hits there are a few things you can watch or listen to that will help you stay current on events.

The National Weather Service (Part of NOAA) has current conditions and updated forecasts on their website.

You can also listen to live Weather Radio, either via a dedicated NOAA Weather Radio (like this one) or via streaming audio from their website.

PUD crews are usually working very hard to get power restore once it’s safe enough for them to begin restoration efforts.

If you are on Facebook, Snohomish County PUD posts frequent updates on the status of outages and restoration.  The PUD also posts an outage map during major storms.

Puget Sound Energy customer’s can keep up on restoration status here: WebsiteFacebookTwitter

In the event there is damage to your property (home, auto, RV) once peoples safety is accounted for, be sure to quickly notify your insurance agent.  They will work with you to determine coverages and get you started with the claims process.

Stay safe out there!
